Visual Literacy Text Presentation

Picture This (How Pictures Work) What? It answers one question. How does the structure of a picture or any visual art form affect our emotional response? Uses a graphic novel to teach. She uses simple ideas and colors. Builds the world slowly and describes what every change she makes. Shows the simple principles of how to show emotion through pictures. Uses examples of each principle beyond the story. Why? The title answered a question I had. How do pictures work? The pictures caught my eye. They are different than the other books, so simple. I was reminded that everything we teach has a purpose. Just like every line in a picture. How? Give them a piece of art and an emotion. Draw it showing that emotion with basic shapes and colors. Give them a short story. Have them draw the story in a graphic novel style. Have them draw their own story in a graphic novel style. Challenges. The main challenge is the simplicity of it.  The ...

There are many ways that visual images can be used as persuasive texts in media. We are attracted to beauty and the idea we can be like celebrities. Consumers need to feel like they made a good decision. Hitting the reset button and making our own decisions are great. Feeling smart and doing big things do it for us. Using our instincts to protect children affects us a lot. It is human nature to want to be accepted by our piers. Sometimes people want to not follow societies rules and follow things based on what the company says it is. They do not know what it actually is. The companies try to use these to get people to buy their products. There is one issue. The audience negotiates whether the communication method works. It is based on our experiences with the subject. We can all interpret the same thing    differently because of our past. Meaning is not in the text since the audience d...

The standards were very interesting to me. I cut them down to the basics of what they mean. The standards for the comprehension and collaboration portion are roughly the same among all ages. For middle school ages, the first is to just engage in the discussion. Listening to what others say but not having to participate. The high school age group must be able to initiate and participate in the discussions. They must be there prepared, having something to say. The second of the portion is the same for all ages. All students must be able to learn and teach using different media. The third is a little different. Middle school age students must acknowledge other’s arguments and evaluate the soundness. At the high school level, they must be able to evaluate the point of view, reasoning, and evidence of rhetoric. They must have a comeback. For the presentation of knowledge and ideas portion, the first for middle school is to present using details to prove a point. They must also have eye co...

This article feels like a nice, little introduction to conversation and discussion. There are some interesting facts as well as experiments. I like all the questions at the end of each part that are in the article. The questions were almost like a survey. All kinds of information can be found out using a survey or in this case just asking yourself questions. The paper describes a conversation as “an exchange of thoughts and feeling where genial cooperation prevails.” I think it is interesting that the genial cooperation must prevail to be a conversation. I thought it was just the first part, an exchange of thoughts. I think it is strange that in the case of this article, they go deeper than just the idea of talking back and forth. That seems like more of a discussion. A discussion is defined in the paper as “discipline and focused excerption of mutual concerns but with no end point predetermined in advanced.” I think the part in the paper that talks about the different types of peopl...

This is a very interesting study. The spreading of different cultures can create many different things and change entire societies. It is important to look at other people’s cultures and spread our own. Back when I lived in the university resident halls, I made friends with many of the foreign exchange students from Japan. I shared stings people from the United States do with them, and they did the same to me. This made me realize how important it is to know about others. They preferred learning with me, in the field instead of class. Culture is more important than the classroom. It is important to understand that at this time, it is becoming more important to be cultured. Even in the United States. One of my best friends, CJ, is in Korea teaching them English right now. Just saying, he has a pretty good deal going. They pay for room and board so everything he makes is net gain. He uses this money to travel all across the continent, sometimes even with his students. He has told me th...
