Learning Letter

1. Having options is great. There is power in having choices. That is what If liked about the text presentations. We learned about over sixty books and when to use them. This information is useful for my future. Reflection is always a good thing. That is what I liked about the portfolio. It is cool to think about how experiences from the past effect the way I will teach. Even reflecting on the reflections here is good. 2. I think it is good we learned about both what we need as well as the students. A lot of people had the same questions as me. It is nice to know I was not the only one with those questions. I do wish we would have separated the last day of learning in two. That was a lot. It was cool to learn in sections. I enjoyed visual literacy the most I think. That is because it is involved in each section of the CCSS. All in all it was lots of good stuff for one quarter. 3. This class did many things to influence my thinking as a teacher. It reminded me how many resoures ther...

The key ideas and details of Reading Informational text are very interesting. For the 11 and 12 graders, they must be able to determine where texts leave matters uncertain. That is the only difference between the 9 th and 10 th portion and the 11 th and 12 th . The second rule is the exact same for each of the groups. In the 3 rd rule, there only have to be a certain level of complexity in the older students. That makes a lot of sense to me. In terms of the craft and structure of the reading of informational texts, there are more small differences. The second point has the ideas for the earlier grades and more complex structural discussion for older. The other points just get more specific as students get older. For the first point in the integration section, the older students must be more specific. They have to integrate and evaluate instead of analyzing the information. The second and third are just a further understanding of the topic. They have to be up to grade level accord...

The Unstoppable Writing Teacher What Uses stories of her failures in teaching as themes. Each chapter is about one story. They are common concerns Each of these stories is broken down into four things. Use the "teacher mindset." Value the process (like the ...

The couple points that we read about in the NES textbook were a nice reminder for me. At this point in my education career, I tend to just go through the motions. I know how to write. I just needed this reminder of why I write what I write. I can easily identify the purpose in the papers I write. It is remembering to tend to the audience I forget about sometimes. I forget that I write to people who have read what I read. I do not need to waste time saying things they already know. I need to work on presenting the message in a way the reader of my papers. Knowing the audience is the most important thing in a paper. I am able to find points that make sense. The overall trend seems to be my topic being too broad. This makes it easy to forget about the middle of the papers. It is easy to skip the introduction and go to the conclusion if the points are all I have. Finding credible information is something that can make a broad idea make more sense. Tending towards what I think other peopl...

Visual Literacy Text Presentation

Picture This (How Pictures Work) What? It answers one question. How does the structure of a picture or any visual art form affect our emotional response? Uses a graphic novel to teach. She uses simple ideas and colors. Builds the world slowly and describes what every change she makes. Shows the simple principles of how to show emotion through pictures. Uses examples of each principle beyond the story. Why? The title answered a question I had. How do pictures work? The pictures caught my eye. They are different than the other books, so simple. I was reminded that everything we teach has a purpose. Just like every line in a picture. How? Give them a piece of art and an emotion. Draw it showing that emotion with basic shapes and colors. Give them a short story. Have them draw the story in a graphic novel style. Have them draw their own story in a graphic novel style. Challenges. The main challenge is the simplicity of it.  The ...

There are many ways that visual images can be used as persuasive texts in media. We are attracted to beauty and the idea we can be like celebrities. Consumers need to feel like they made a good decision. Hitting the reset button and making our own decisions are great. Feeling smart and doing big things do it for us. Using our instincts to protect children affects us a lot. It is human nature to want to be accepted by our piers. Sometimes people want to not follow societies rules and follow things based on what the company says it is. They do not know what it actually is. The companies try to use these to get people to buy their products. There is one issue. The audience negotiates whether the communication method works. It is based on our experiences with the subject. We can all interpret the same thing    differently because of our past. Meaning is not in the text since the audience d...
